Week 8 Task’s Continued – The Clean Feed
The Australian Government plans to implement a filtering system which will block internet sites deemed ‘innaproriate’ for the viewing of democratic Australians. The filtering system will block sites such as R18+, X18+ and websites which are ‘Refused Classification’. This filtering system will also slow our internet down by 30%. The Clean Feed filter is said to have two components; an opt out filter (which includes websites deemed harmfull and innapropriate to children) and a mandatory filter sensor which which will block out all illegal and unwanted material.
In a democratic nation such as Australia, the implementation of a system such as this will bring our country into line with other nations such as China (which is a communist country). For the democratic people of Australia, this is a pretty big slap in the face. As a nation, they basically controlling what we can and can’t do.
On the contrary, material that is being accessed in this country such as child pornoghraphy and extremist terrorist websites, should be blocked from from view, for the protection of our democratic nation. But then that would go against democracy wouldn’t it?
